This is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now; a number of people have asked me about my policy on reviews and guest posts with a view to me reviewing their books or hosting a guest post, so I think now would be a good time for me to sort it out.
REVIEWS
When it comes to reviews, I endeavour to always give my honest opinion, though I hasten to add that it is only that, my opinion. As you will note from having read some of my reviews, if you have, that I will mention the things I didn’t like but I always balance that by mentioning what I think is good about the book.
I rate by the 1/2* and will generally give a book anything from 3-5* here on my blog; I have recently started adding my reviews to the Amazon UK site, but since they don’t allow 1/2* any reviews with a 1/2* will be rounded up, so 3.5* on my site would be 4* on Amazon.
If I read a book that I don’t feel good enough for at least 3* I will contact the author and explain the situation; should the author wish it, I will go ahead and post the review, but I won’t post a review of less than 3* without first confirming with the author that it is okay to do so.
I don’t have any genres that I will flat out refuse to review, I’m willing to consider anything as long as it sounds good, but there are a few genres that are not my preferred reading. To make things easy, here is a simple guide:
Preferred genres
Fantasy
Thriller/Crime
Horror
Sci-Fi
Historical Fiction
Will consider but not top choice
Romance
Erotica
Religious fiction
Non-Fiction
Guest Posts
I’m willing to host guest posts on almost any subject, so long as it is well-written and not too controversial (I don’t mind a bit of controversy) but I do have to say that I won’t host religiously themed posts; I am willing to read religious items, mostly fiction, if well-written but I’m an atheist and therefore prefer to remain neutral on the subject of religion.
If you have a post you wish me to host on any subject other than religion (this includes promoting books), or you wish a review, get in touch in the first instance through the contact page with brief details of what you’re after. If I’m interested I’ll let you know.
I look forward to hearing from you.
